2007:
Umdabu received funding from The Community Foundation Of Greater Birmingham and The Robert R. Meyers Foundation “To support the choreographer and artistic coordinator position.

Umdabu received funding from The Jefferson County Community Arts Fund/Cultural Alliance of Greater Birmingham for the upcoming production “A Royal Betrayal”.

2006:
Umdabu received funding from The Jefferson County Community Arts Fund/Cultural Alliance of Greater Birmingham to launch an “Awareness Campaign”.

Umdabu received funding from The Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment For The Arts for “Repertoire Development”.

Umdabu received funding from The Jefferson County Community Arts Fund/Cultural Alliance of Greater Birmingham for “Capital Equipment”.

Umdabu received a grant from The Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment For The Arts to “Perform a 45 min lecture/demonstration at 20 braches of the Birmingham Public Library”.

2005:
Umdabu was awarded it’s first grant from the Cultural Alliance. This grant is to teach South African dance, song and history at 12 sites, for the Birmingham Park & Recreation Board’s summer camps.

2005:
Umdabu renewed their NACA membership. This year for the South Region

2004:
Umdabu attended the 2004 Central Region NACA Convention, in Arlington, TX

2005:
Umdabu received it’s 501(c)3 in February

2002:
Umdabu became members of the Alabama Dance Council : Umdabu became NACA Regional members (Central Regional)

ZULU CULTURAL TIPS

:: Traditional Clothing of the Zulus are cow, goat, and goat skins. Leopard skin was worn only by the Zulu Royal Family.
:: Cow skin is used on South African drums. Goat skin is used on sangoma (South Africa doctor) drums only.
:: There are 11 different tribes in South Africa. The Zulu tribe is the largest.
:: Before South Africa was invaded by the Dutch, it was known as Azania.
